Earlier today I had a client request me to update their Google My Business (GMB) profile with a bunch of photos on their phone. While I aim to please, and I would be happy to do that – instead I created a quick video to show how someone can quickly add photos or posts (updates) to Google My Business.

For local businesses, there are few if any tools more powerful than Google My Business. This service literally puts an organization “on the map” by adding either a physical location or a service area to Google Maps. I also recommend using Bing Places for Business and Apple Maps, but that’s for a separate post.

Like a website, Google rewards fresh content. One of the best ways to keep your business coming up, demonstrating your product or service, and having a little fun with your business is adding photos and updates to your GMB profile.

Once upon a time until recently you needed to manage your GMB profile with a separate app or at business.google.com. This is no longer necessary (though business.google.com still works – especially for those of us who manage multiple client locations). Today, when you are on the go at a job site, you only need the Google Maps app which is fairly ubiquitous being found on every Android device and available for every iOS device too.

How to Post to GMB Using Google Maps

You can reference the following video I shot, but here are the steps to creating your GMB photo uploads or updates:

  1. Go to Google Maps.
  2. Find your listing.
  3. Click on your listing.

Adding Photos

  1. If you want to only add a photo, go down to the photos section and click the “Add a photo” button.
  2. Select the photo you would like or take a new photo.
  3. Click the “Post” button.
  4. Done.

Adding Updates

  1. If you want to create an Update, go to the “Updates” section after you click on your listing.
  2. Click “Add update” or “Add offer”.
  3. Write your update.
  4. You can add a button using a call-to-action from the dropdown menu such as “Learn More”.
  5. Add your URL.
  6. Add a photo.
  7. Click done.
  8. Click the “Publish” button.

All of this can be done in just a couple of minutes, but I can help you to capture and document important moments using your phone such as project completions, team outings, special events, award receipts, etc., for you to proudly display for your customers to find in a snap.
